FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ADOPTING!

What is the process to adopt a pet?

Adoptions are done on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be completed in person at our adoption facility after having met the animal in question. You can fill out an application via our website ahead of time to speed up the process, but filling out the application is in no way a guarantee that a particular animal will be available for adoption at the time of your visit. We do not hold animals for adoption under any circumstances. We do not have phones at our facilities, so the best way to get ahold of someone is to come in person to meet the pet you are interested in or inquire about a specific animal.

All of our available dogs fall into three categories, see below.

Dogs at our Adoption Centers

Listing example: Fido - Costa Mesa Location

Stop by any time during our opening hours. Dogs are adopted on a first-come, first-served basis.

 Dogs in Foster Care

Listing example: Sparky - Chino Hills Location *BY APPOINTMENT*

If you see a dog on our website that is listed as in Foster Care or By Appointment, that means they are not at our adoption center and an appointment must be made to meet them. If this is the case, you'll need to email us with the name of the dog you'd like to meet and when you'd like to come by the adoption center so that we can arrange for the dog to be there at that time. To adopt these dogs, it's as simple as showing up to meet them, making a connection, and filling out the necessary paperwork. We encourage you to bring your current dog with you to be sure that they also get along well with your new potential dog. If it all works out, and you make a connection, you can take the dog home with you the same day.

Puppies by Lottery

Due to the high demand for puppies, we will choose potential adopters using a lottery system. This is the only fair way we have found to complete adoptions!

Here are step by step instructions:

1. This will be an in-person lottery for all puppies on the date they are available.

2. Approved applicants will be randomly chosen via the lottery system once applications are completed online and reviewed. We will not have hard copy applications on site, only online applications are accepted. Go to the pet you are interested in online and fill out an application where it says, “apply for adoption.” If you are interested in multiple animals, you can put multiple names. You will receive an email confirmation once your application is received, you will then receive another email when your application is approved/reviewed by a manager.

 3. All potential adopters who are interested in being entered into the lottery will have to come to the facility at 11:45am on the date the puppies are available, after an application has been filled out, and an approval email has been received.

We cannot guarantee any animals to any potential adopters. We understand that not being chosen for your desired puppy can be disappointing. The lottery system is designed with fairness in mind to give all eager families an equal chance at adopting their desired puppy. Those selected for the lottery are done so at random.

/// FAQ ///

Q: Where is the application?

A: The application is in the bio of the pet you are interested in, you will click “apply for adoption.” This is not a “hold” it just speeds up the approval process when you come into the facility to adopt. We do all adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis. However, we do review applications very thoroughly and do reference check for landlord issues.

Q: Can I adopt two puppies from the same litter?

A: No, it is Priceless Pets' policy to only allow adoptions of one puppy per litter per family.

Q: Can I apply for different dogs on the same application? Yes, you can apply for multiple dogs, put the names of all pets you are interested in on the application.

Q: What is needed from me to adopt a puppy?
A: There is an on-line application you can find on our website and additional paperwork that needs to be completed in the center before the interested person/persons take home any of the puppies.

Please make sure that you have checked with your landlord to ensure you are able to have animals at your home and bring proof with you on the adoption day. Proof can be your signed contract, email from the landlord, etc. It must be written consent.

Q: What is the donation fee and what is included?
A: The donation for all puppies is listed on the website next to their biography, which includes rabies, microchip, puppy vaccines, deworming, and spay/neuter. If the puppy is 8-9 weeks (as most of our puppies are), a voucher will be given for the rabies and neuter/spay to take place when your puppy is 4 months old. The cost is covered by our organization, and you will sign a contract stating that your adopted puppy will be spayed/neutered by 6 months old.

Due to the high demand for puppies, please note that Puppy Adoption Days are always stressful for the adoption managers, volunteers, families, and pets at our adoption centers. After much trial and error, we found that the lottery system is the fairest way to choose potential adopters. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during this process! We try to make it as seamless as possible as we know that bringing a new family member home is such a wonderful, life-changing experience.

We have many adorable, loving pets at our adoption centers waiting for their forever homes – perfect for those who would like to skip the potty-training, shoe-chewing, cry-all-night antics of tiny pups. Please take a moment to check out our other available pets!

Cats:

If you see a cat listed on our website, that cat is at the adoption center indicated on the “location.” You will see the location noted next to their name and in their profile. Please check the available date next to their description in their bio as well on the website as some of the cats are in foster homes until they come to our adoption centers on a specific date. We are doing a first-come, first-served adoption process on all of our cats and kittens.

Come in anytime we are open to meet any dog and cat currently at our adoption centers. No appointment is necessary to come in. If you see a pet that is no longer listed on our website, it has likely been adopted. Please check the website for updates before driving long distances!

Thank you so much for your patience as our adoption center teams work around the clock to adjust to these new procedures.

Jethro was rescued through our hound transport program! He was transported here from Kentucky, and was Heartworm positive. He has since completed his treatment and is so thankful he found his forever home with his mom Deborah! She was so excited to have a new hound best friend to spend her days with and we are so thrilled this handsome hunk was able to get out of the shelter and onto a couch for Thanksgiving!
